10 Spring Activities for Toddlers

Spring is almost here and we are so beyond excited! Spring is a wonderful time to engage toddlers in fun and educational activities that celebrate the beauty of the season. Here are ten simple spring activities to enjoy with toddlers:

  1. Nature Walks: Take toddlers on nature walks to explore the sights and sounds of spring. Point out budding flowers, chirping birds, and buzzing insects as you stroll through parks or nature trails. Encourage toddlers to collect leaves, flowers, or sticks to create nature-inspired crafts later.

  2. Planting Seeds: Get hands-on with gardening by planting seeds together. Choose easy-to-grow flowers or vegetables like sunflowers, marigolds, or lettuce. Let toddlers help fill pots with soil, plant seeds, and water them. Watching seeds sprout and grow will delight toddlers and teach them about plant life cycles.

  3. Outdoor Art: Set up an outdoor art station and let toddlers unleash their creativity. Provide sidewalk chalk for drawing on pavement, washable paint for finger painting on paper, or brushes and water for painting rocks or tree bark. Encourage toddlers to create spring-themed artwork inspired by flowers, butterflies, or rainbows.

  4. Sensory Play: Create sensory bins filled with spring-themed materials for toddlers to explore. Fill a bin with dyed rice or shredded paper and hide plastic eggs or toy insects for toddlers to discover. Add scoops, funnels, and cups for scooping and pouring sensory fun.

  5. Egg Decorating: Get crafty with egg decorating activities. Use hard-boiled eggs or plastic eggs and let toddlers decorate them with markers, stickers, or washable paint. Encourage toddlers to get creative and experiment with different designs and patterns.

  6. Bubbles: Nothing says spring like bubbles! Head outdoors and blow bubbles for toddlers to chase and pop. You can also make homemade bubble solution using dish soap and water and experiment with different bubble wands for unique bubble shapes.

  7. Picnics: Enjoy a spring picnic in the backyard or local park. Pack a blanket and a basket of toddler-friendly snacks like fruit, cheese, and crackers. Let toddlers help pack the picnic basket and spread out the blanket before enjoying a leisurely meal outdoors.

  8. Butterfly Watching: Look for butterflies fluttering around flowers in the garden or park. Bring along a butterfly identification guide and teach toddlers about different butterfly species. You can also make DIY butterfly feeders using sugar water and brightly colored flowers to attract butterflies to your yard.

  9. Outdoor Music and Movement: Set up a makeshift outdoor music and movement area with instruments like drums, tambourines, and shakers. Play lively spring-themed music and encourage toddlers to dance, march, or jump along to the beat.

  10. Bug Hunt: Go on a bug hunt and search for creepy crawlies in the garden or under rocks and logs. Use magnifying glasses to observe insects up close and teach toddlers about different bugs and their habitats.

These easy spring activities are not only entertaining but also provide valuable learning opportunities for toddlers to explore nature, develop fine and gross motor skills, and stimulate their creativity. So, get outside and enjoy the wonders of spring with your little ones!
